Meet The Team

Hello, all! I'm a twenty-three year old concert/touring and portrait photographer and have been for four years now. I always refer to myself as a tropical goth because I think it perfectly encapsulates my personality and interests and the fact that I don’t want to have to fit in one box. I'm a strong believer in amplifying women/non-binary voices within the music industry and that is what I created Tropical Goth to do! Music has always been such a big part of my life and I love that I'm able to combine all of my favorite things together for a career. I hope you like my words!

I'm a music photographer and writer local in Salt Lake City, Utah. I've been attending concerts since I was a kid and knew I wanted to be a music photographer since I was 13 years old. For the majority of my life, I've dabbled in photography and finally began my business in high school and I've been doing it as part of a full-time job for a couple of years now. I've photographed bands such as Afterlife, August Burns Red, A Day To Remember, Coheed and Cambria, FINNEAS, and many more. Music and photography are all that my world revolves around, I've known I wanted to do this because the emotions that an artist expresses on stage varies every night and I want to be able to capture it all and share it with the world and have a way for fans to be able to feel it all through the photos. My music taste is hardcore, metalcore, pop-punk, and alternative but it's never limited to just that. 

Hi! my name is Chrisy Salinas — I’m a twenty-four year old music/touring photographer. I’ve been doing concert photography for nearly 6 years, it’s been the best time of my life. I also do portraiture amongst other things. I’ve been going to shows since I was 12; music has been a huge part of my life. I’ve photographed bands such as Turnstile, Comeback Kid, Have Heart, Knocked Loose, Rotting Out, Tigers Jaw, Trapped Under Ice, and so many more. If I’m not at my day time jobs, I’m either with my dog or at a show. Being a woman in this industry, much less a person of color, isn’t an easy feat and I’ve experienced a lot along the way. It’s been tough, but I’m really excited to be apart of a team that uplifts LGBTQ+/BIPOC/female/queer voices. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life and I’m excited to be able to share that. Hardcore/punk has been my bread and butter for a majority of my career, but I’m not limited to that! I have an eclectic taste in music and am always up for recommendations! 

Hello, hi! My name is Yrene Ramirez, my pronouns are they/them, and I’m a writer/concert photographer! Shooting my first shot (literally, pun intended) in 2017 with a brief hiatus in the interim due to the pandemic, I am ridiculously passionate about live music and capturing moments you wouldn’t typically see behind the barricade. In conjunction with taking sick pics and writing miscellaneous reviews, I am a huge advocate for supporting other like minded creatives from all walks of life. As a queer, POC, non-binary human being, I know what it’s like to be faced with adversity, and to have your skillset questioned based solely on perception. Know you have a cheerleader in me! Live in the musical moment, and don't forget to boogie!

Hi, I’m Maryleen, a music photographer based in the North-West of England. I’m a huge fan of all things art. I love music and I toured across EU and UK to see bands. I know what it feels like to love a band so much you feel your heart is pounding out of your chest; the thrill when the lights go down and the band gets on stage. That’s why, in 2021, I decided to pursue concert photography - to capture the shots that fans and bands will cherish as a memento, hoping my photos will bring back the feeling of being in that moment again. I find myself shooting rock / alternative rock / punk / harcore metal bands the most but I’m open to every genre, always eager to be surprised by artists. I’m educated at Master’s degree level and I’m fluent in four languages. I’m really happy and grateful to join Tropical Goth and help champion inclusivity and diversity.

Hi! I’m Jess, my pronouns are she/they and I’m a photographer based in Manchester, UK. I dabbled in photography when I was a kid but decided to peruse music at college and university, then due to my world being flipped upside down with an autism diagnosis, I realised that the visual arts is where I am meant to be. This lead me to music photography and it is now my absolute favourite thing in the world! My favourite genres range from jazz to heavy metal and everything in between, with some of my favourite bands including Enter Shikari, Radiohead and so many more!

Hi! My name is Jess Fidel, pronouns she/her and I am a photographer from New Jersey! I also work in social media, love creating graphics, and painting. My favorite thing about photographing concerts is being able to capture the raw passion that musicians have for their music. It’s such a special moment when you see them sink into the zone. My current favorite genres have to be indie rock and pop, with bands like The Backseat Lovers, The Maria’s, The Beth’s, Julia Jacklin, and Annie Dirusso to name a few!

I’m here to uplift the sounds and voices of LGBTQ+ artists like myself so their stories can be heard and we live in a world with more representation.

Hi, I’m Claudia! I currently reside in Columbus, Ohio and am expected to graduate with a BFA in photography in May 2024. I realized my natural gravitation towards the music community could become a career when I saw my favorite band, PUP, for the first time. After that night, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else but being on the other side of the barricade, capturing those moments I love so much. Some of my other favorite artists include Charly Bliss, The Beths, Jeff Rosenstock, and Slaughter Beach, Dog. 

Hi! My name is Natalie, I'm thirty-three years old, born and raised in Queens, NY. Photography has been a passion of mine since I can remember, growing up in the city there was always something that was inspiring. I started attending concerts at a young age and in my early teens grew interested in music photography specifically. In 2023 I decided to finally pursue my passion professionally and have been fortunate enough to shoot for bands such as ColorBlind, Until I wake, and Ne Obliviscaris. I'm currently based out of Minneapolis but travel often when able. I'm always trying to learn more and improve my craft when and where I can. Since pursuing this it's made me grow so much as an individual, pushing me out of my comfort zone to create amazing art, while also meeting amazing people along the way. I feel like that is a great example of how music brings people together. My music interests are not limited by any means; however, I do love Metal Core, Hard Rock, Punk, Alternative, etc. and can only hope to continue to shoot for some awesome musicians!  

I am a 25 year old queer photographer located in Phoenix, AZ. I am extremely passionate about what I do and I work hard to capture moments and memories. I have experience touring and working with artists such as Dance Gavin Dance, Knocked Loose, Kurt Travis, Bay Ledges, Currents, Dying Wish, etc. I enjoy working with all genres, especially: hardcore, pop punk, alternative, and EDM. My goal is to learn something new every day and apply it to my work the next time around. Community is very important, therefore I strive to always keep a positive attitude and share my experience with others. I value new connections along the way. My name is Kate, I'm a writer/editor originally from the Seattle area that's currently based in Missoula, MT. Some of my favorite bands are Snail Mail, Wednesday, and feeble little horse. I'm passionate about good music, mosh pits, and screwy eyeliner. 

Hi y'all! I'm Summer (she/her/hers) and I am a twenty-two year old photographer in Chicago. I have been working in music (and attending concerts ever since I was a kid!) for a few years now and I love the diverse community I've found myself in. I am a recent graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in communications. Photography has always been a major passion of mine alongside music. Outside of photography, I have a big heart for artist management, social media, and publicity! I have photographed artists such as mxmtoon, Pup, The Happy Fits, and Hippo Campus! I am based in Chicago where I work in the box office at House of Blues. My music taste leans towards pop-punk, alternative, indie pop, and expands much more. I'm so excited to be here and to empower such unique voices in the music industry!

Hi all!! My name is Manda(she/her) I’m a professional photographer based in Portland, OR. I’ve been shooting and working in the music industry doing content, vip and running for around 8 years now. I have toured with and photographed artists such as Yours Truly, Glacier Veins, The Home Team, Chloe Moriondo, Ratboys and more. I’m extremely passionate about uplifting fellow queer folks and women in the scene, and creating photographs you feel your best self in. 

On the chance I’m not at a show, I spend my free time doing road trips with my dog, thrifting fun vintage finds, and playing my nintendo switch (stardew valley!) 

Some of my current favorite artists are Chappell Roan, Remi Wolf, Briston Maroney and Olivia Rodrigo.

Hey! I'm Emma! I’m currently a high school senior in South Florida. I love all types of music but I listen to Indie music the most. My favorite artists/bands are The Backseat Lovers, boygenius, Moxie, Noah Kahan, Charlie Burg, and Briston Maroney. I’m so excited to be able to write and amplify the voices in the music industry.

My name is Grace aka Grapes Dove I use they/them pronouns and I'm a 22 year old free lance photographer located out of Boone North Carolina! I'm currently attending App State as a Com Photo Major! I dabble in a little bit of everything, but my main passion is concert and live event photography! Some of my favorite bands and artists include: The Maine, Knocked Loose, Fleece, Lorde, and Stevie Nicks! 

Hi! My name is Kayla and I'm a concert photographer from Charlotte, NC that mostly shoots local and touring hardcore, metal, and punk bands. Some of my favorite HC bands include Koyo, Turnstile, Drug Church, Scowl, World of Pleasure, Have Heart, Thursday, and Magnitude, but I also love bands in other genres like Joyce Manor, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Mom Jeans, Modern Baseball, and Snail Mail. I've been shooting both film and digital since early 2022 and am excited to continue growing as a photographer! When I'm not at a show, I'm either working as a social media manager, hanging out with my cats, reading, or playing bass in my straightedge band xVisceralx.

My name is Ashley (she/her) and I am a 26 year old music photographer from Oklahoma City. I dropped out of music school to start my photography business in 2019, and 4 years later I found myself back in music anyway—but now as a photographer! Some of my favorite artists are 5SOS, Saint Motel, Paramore, Spiritbox, Kurt Travis, and Bring Me The Horizon. I’m extremely passionate about helping my local music scene grow, and am excited to build more connections in this community while showcasing their work, especially as a single mom. This is a music scene I will proudly introduce my kid to when they’re ready, and I can’t wait to share it with Tropical Goth readers too! Some of my favorite local female artists are Stepmom & Sophia Massad.

Hey! My name is Megan Murayama and I am a photographer and writer. I am currently a Music Business Management student at Durham College, about 45 minutes outside of Toronto, but am originally from Seattle, WA. I live and breathe music and live shows, and have been doing photography for almost 2 years. I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed many of my favorite artists, including (but not limited) to: Maisie Peters, MUNA, boygenius, MisterWives, Weathers, and Waterparks. When I’m not shooting a show, I’m working in the box office, expanding my record collection, or counting down the days until my next show.
